Servers

What is a Server?

A server essentially provides services and features to other devices and computers. Just as a server in a restaurant accepts requests from guests and fulfills food and drink orders.

How Would a Server Benefit Me?

To answer this question, we can look at two of the more popular types of servers and their key roles in your home or business.

  • File Servers

File Servers allow data to be stored in one location and allows you to assign permissions, allowing you to set who gets access to what.

  • DHCP Servers

DHCP servers allow you to control internal IP addresses without having to go to each individual computer to manually set this up. This also gives you the flexibility of grouping certain devices to be within a certain IP range.

For most applications, we use the Windows Server operating system as it is both robust and flexible for most use cases. However, dependent on your requirements, we may recommend other solutions.
